"Nothing."

About: The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (King's Lynn)

(as a relative),

What I liked

Nothing.

What could be improved

Nurses and nursing assistants attitudes to patients and visitors are in desperate need of improvement. Patient care is APPALLING. My neighbour witnessed a patient opposite who was left soaking in a bed of urine with a dressing clearly in need of attention while staff ignored her because it was near the end of their shift. Sleeping was made impossible with the chatter all nights of the staff and the sound of the bells going all night. Why can't these bells be muted? Pills were still being handed out at midnight. Food was virtually inedible. Anyone optimistic enough to want news of progress/discharge were left disappointed as nurses either didn't know because they were agency, didn't know because they had just come back from days off, or didn't know because they didn't understand the question. Staff hardly took any interest in patients preferring instead to talk about their social lives or who was sleeping with whom. The sister in charge of the ward seemed too young and immature to be in charge of such a responsibility and this view was clearly held by the staff under her. Nursing assistants had no respect for trained staff and trained staff were too scared of the junior staff to bring them to order. The much heralded matrons were never in evidence and despite giving a clear and comprehensive account at admission in MAU it seemed none of what was said was passed on to staff in the general ward because four days on the nurses clearly hadn't a clue about what had gone on; either the nurse didn't write down the answers given or ward nurses hadn't read the notes.

Anything else?

If my g.p. wants me to have an investigation or procedure I'll opt to go somewhere else. Anywhere else. Not at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
