I visited the MIU on Sunday with a suspected UTI. I was informed by the receptionist that my problem ( which I had to admit to in front of a packed waiting area - no privacy ) could not be dealt with in the MIU. I was very surprised to hear this.I am a Registered Nurse myself and find it unacceptable that a simple urine test and commonly used antibiotics for this condition could not be prescribed in this instance, as it would be at my GP Surgery by a Nurse Practitioner. I was sent away with my " medical condition" that "only a Doctor could assess." Patients need to be aware of what conditions they can walk in with and those they can't - it is very confusing to run an appointment only Doctor system next to a walk in one. The walk in MIU only cares for certain issues and this is not the same service you may receive at your GP Surgery.
"Could not be helped."
