My father was admitted to University Hospital Crosshouse after becoming ill in the care home where he was a resident.
The staff nurse on duty that day called me to say she was concerned about him. My husband and I went to see him as soon as we could get there as we live an hour away.
Over the next 10 days we spent a lot of time sitting with dad and got to speak to a number of the staff nurses who were responsible for his care. We both have to praise these nurses highly, they could not have shown him any more care in his last days. Any time I phoned they were extremely helpful and we were able to come and go as we pleased with no restriction.
The final call came in the middle of the night to say dad had gone and we went back down to say goodbye. Again the way the staff nurse handled this was so genuinely caring, especially after more than 12 hours on shift, it made me glad that dad spent his last days with these people.
"Grateful for care and attention given to my father"
