"Maternity"

About: Watford General Hospital

Firstly, the antenatal care I recieved was great which I can not fault. However once I was in labour it seemed to fall apart. Despite being in great pain, contracting every 3 mins, having had a previous c section and told to come in as soon as in labour! I was sent home from triage as not dilated enough. I had to come straight back as waters broke. Once back in triage, they seemed to dither about whether I could go up to delivery, despite me needing pain relief. It seemed like they were unable to take the initiative to make any decision other than I had to be so many cm dilated. By this point I really needed pain relief. Finally got taken up to delivery as baby's heart beat wasn't quite right to be examined and told there was no time for pain relief. The room I was in smelt of urine. The midwife although nice enough, talked loudly about my piles in front of my husband which I felt was very insensitive, the midwife also spent most of the hour I was pushing telling me I must try 'poo poo' ( I am not 5 years old and in all honesty I believe this had a detrimental effect on my ability to push). The consultant had a lack of bedside manner, they were rude and abrupt. Once our baby was delivered by ventouse she was just plonked in the cot, after about 10 minutes we realised she wasn't getting checked or weighed and my husband picked her up. She was weighed some time later, turns out they were too distracted by a missing swab to bother with the baby. I was also never offered a feedback form to fill in following the birth which I was led to believe would happen
