I attended Medway for a gastroscopy and I was told, the same day, that I had an oesophageal ulcer, an oesophageal stricture, a hiatus hernia, duonenal ulcers and a surgical clip from previous surgery had been left inside me. I was told to visit my GP, who put me on proton pump inhibitors. I was expecting a follow up appointment with the consultant to discuss the findings - but I have not had one and it is now several months since diagnosis. I had a further gastroscopy following medication, which shows that the oesophageal ulcer has healed but I still have erosion in my stomach. No mention of the surgical clip. What I want to know is: why don't consultants follow up on gastrocopy results. I am particularly concerned about the surgical clip that has been left inside me and I want to know if surgery is possible for the hiatus hernia. It all seems as if I have been diagnosed and pretty much left to my own devices. I cannot fault the endoscopy unit. They were brilliant. It's just the follow-up that is a bit lacking.
"No follow up by consultant"
