"Unhappy with wife's treatment in A & E"

About: Yeovil District Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as other),

My wife was taken to A & E by the ambulance service with difficulty in breathing and continual coughing.

The nurse on duty treated her in a very unsympathetic and uncaring manner. Their instructions were curt and almost to the point of being rude, instructions such as 'clench your fist' 'do NOT move your arm etc. , whilst inserting a canula. There is always difficulty in finding her veins and the manner in which they rammed the canula in with no gentleness whatsoever left her literally rolling in agony only to be told to 'stay still'.

Unfortunately it took two such painful experiences to succeed. Fortunately I do not have a needle phobia and had to hold and comfort my wife whilst watching what was happening. I have experienced this department on two occasions and cannot fault the treatment given but in this case it was way out of order but being somewhat older now, and in desperate need of treatment for my wife, I felt obliged to remain silent but very angry and unhappy.
