My father has a permanent catheter in his bladder. It frequently blocks and he has to call out a district nurse to deal with it.
The out of hours system is wonderful when it works: the problem is, if he rings them between 5.00am and 7.00am, or 5.00pm and 7pm, because the shift change is at 6 (or so we have been told), they are very reluctant to come out and deal with him.
Several times I have had to sit with him whilst he was in pain and waiting for 'relief', sometimes for up to 3 hours! At 88 years old he can do without that. Surely this long delay cannot be right?
