I have recently had the Lemtrada (Alemtuzumab) treatment for my MS. I was informed of all the possible risks & side effects but felt the benefits outweighed the risk. My treatment went from Tue- Fri, weekend break and final infusion on Mon. The nurses on ward D41 and Phoenix Unit were all lovely, helpful and explained everything as I went through it. The staff worked well together and accompanied me between the ward and unit as needed. I had a rash on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th days which looked quite bad but went down at the end of each day and wasn't itchy or uncomfortable (I hadn't even realised it was on my legs until I looked!) The rash was the only side effect I've had. The week was definitely easier than I'd thought it would be. One thing I would suggest to anyone considering this treatment is to familiarise yourself with "the pregnancy diet" as I was offered a few things throughout the week that I can't really eat on this treatment. My MS nurse and neurologist came to check on me daily at the Phoenix Unit which was good and reassured me that everything was going to plan. I'm already booked in at Phoenix Unit for the 3 days of follow up treatment next Jan.
