I was diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia this time last year. I was, from my emergency admission at St Mary's paddington to my ongoing care, treated with respect and dignity. The standard of care has been outstanding on all levels; receptionist, phlebotomists, pharmacy and ancillary staff. The role of clinical nurse specialist has provided not just medical support but pastoral care, confidence building and amazing care for my son and daughter. My care by the professor and registrars is exceptional where I feel I am supported, encouraged and enabled to take control of my illness and life. Although no one likes attending outpatients I always feel important and supported which I have no doubt has benefited the control of the illness. At a time where the NHS is critiqued constantly it is important to recognise outstanding practice. I and my children feel continually grateful that I am lucky enough to be cared for by professor Apperley and her team. Thank you Imperial.
