I was given a diagnosis of a retinal dettachment by Stoke Mandeville hospital. I was firstly sent to Oxford hospital for urgent surgery, but on arrival in Oxford the surgeon was not present and they had no record of me which was upsetting. I was offered a date in mid January 2015 for an operation! I was then referred to Moorfields by Stoke Mandeville as they were unable to do any immediate surgery with no available appointments for over a week . I was seen by the specialist early in the morning at Moorfields and asked to wait in the hospital as they may have availability that day to carry out surgery. I was seen by the anesthetist later in the afternoon to advise the surgical procedure would be that day and she was reassuring about what would be done. When it was time to go to the theatre the anesthetist was very calming, even though the thought of what was going to happen was quite stressful. The surgeon who carried out the procedure was also very calming and the whole operation was completed in an hour. I would also like to compliment the nursing staff that were working that day in the Mc'kellar ward and the attention they gave me. I would also like to compliment the follow up procedure, I was contacted very quickly to let me know I had a check up a week later. I was seen promptly by the surgeon in my follow up check up a week later from being discharged. Moorfields have since been in contact to arrange another check up in a month to see my progress. My experience of Moorfields has all been positive and I very grateful for the speed and professionalism I was dealt with.
"Great Service"
