My partners mother was suddenly unresponsive having had a fall and broken her hip she was recovering well after her op, but her dementia and age are an issue re her recovery. My partner was called immediately! On our arrival we were offered refeshment and were given a total breakdown of events and further investigation and tests into why she was not responding, by the on duty doctor. We were with her for around 5 hours, during that time she was attended to regularly and changed twice. The staff were empathic towards us and the patient. We actually thought we would lose her but she rallied round and the sense of relief re staff was significant. Despite the tests and no explanation for her relapse the duty doctors did their utmost to ensure she was stable and comfortable, answering all our questions as best they could. The only issue for us is that we were unprepared for our long visit and unable to access suitable food items as the cafe had run out of sandwiches and the restaurant was closed! Being Sunday, this was understandable but we both felt wecwere unable to venture away from the hospital. it would be prudent for the independent cafe management to review this.
