"Special delivery in the maternity unit"

About: Heartlands Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

I went into labour at home, contractions were speeding up fast and the midwife on the phone at the delivery unit said come on in.

We arrived and were shown quickly to the labour suite where they discovered baby was breech and we needed an emergency c section. The midwives and consultants were amazing, the operating room was very clean and well equipped, and baby was born safe and sound and in my husbands arms before we knew it.

That is only part of the story! ! ! The aftercare at heartlands was incredible - the maternity ward was well staffed, busy with patients but extremely well managed by caring, well qualified and professional midwives and doctors.

I stayed on the cedar ward and have never felt so cared for. These ladies really helped put me back on my feet after my c section, showed me how to care for baby, comforted me when I couldn't stop crying, helped baby feed when the little tinker wouldn't take her milk - I was genuinely sorry to leave.

The hosp is old fashioned in terms of buildings, decor etc but honestly I have never felt in safer hands and will definitely be having any future babies there!

Many congratulations on your new baby and I am delighted to hear about the excellent care you received. I will make sure the staff involved are thanked for this.

Many thanks for sending the feedback, it is such a motivator for our staff who work in difficult times for the NHS.

Matthew
