To cut a long story short, I have just returned to work after a period of being unwell, and I am really struggling to get myself back into my usual ‘work mode. ’
My Care Coordinator at Somerset House thought it might be helpful to refer me to an OT within the CMHT (Bradford North). I have never had an OT before – so this is a new experience for me.
So far I have met with the OT on two occasions in my own home, had one telephone consultation and my next appointment will be within one of my work places.
I am so glad my Care Coordinator referred me to the OT service. The OT has treated me with a great deal of respect and dignity, and shown empathy and compassion with my worries and concerns.
Without her (the OT) compassionate care and guidance I would never have started setting myself ‘realistic’ working goals. I believe that I still wouldn’t be able to muster up the confidence and motivation to carry on with the struggle that I am having getting myself into any working mode – let alone my usual one. For this I am truly grateful for, as to me my only other likely option would have been pack in work all together – which I know would have a catastrophic impact on my general MH and wellbeing.
In general, my experience of using services at Somerset House is excellent! I have been referred to Somerset House (as and when needed! ) over the past 15 years or so and throughout that time – If my memory serves me well! I have always being treated with compassion. I’m not very good myself as a patient for example I don’t go for my blood testing when I should – or I sometimes decide to stop taking my medication (usually when I’m not well – because I think it’s the meds that are making me poorly! ) My consultant and any other workers that have worked with me – have always treated me with understanding over these discrepancies, whilst always remaining in their professionalism, and advised me of the possible consequences.
I have had problems ringing Somerset House recently though – due to a new system apparently. Therefore if I need to speak to someone I always contact them by email or their work mobile number now
"With help from the OT, I am getting back into "work mode""
