I had an inguinal hernia repair by open surgery at Lister on Monday (two days ago). I found all the staff to be friendly and helpful which is so important when undergoing an inevitably stressful procedure. Despite this being, of course, a very busy hospital I had no sense of anything being hurried or any corners cut. I certainly felt in safe hands. The operation seems to have gone well. I was discharged the same day and am recovering swiftly. I was given a helpful information sheet upon leaving but would like to suggest that this be given out at the consultation stage if possible as it does contain some information which relates to preparation for the operation which it might have been useful to have had earlier on. This was my second inguinal hernia repair having had the other side done in a private hospital a few years back. I can't say that there was any significant difference in the level of care and attention at Lister and I was impressed with the service received at this NHS hospital which more than met my expectations.
