I had a colonoscopy today (Saturday). The whole experience in the unit was amazing. When I arrived in the clean, bright and attractive unit I was welcomed by a staff member. Everything was explained to me about the procedure, I was given time to undress and then relax until my turn. When I came round after the procedure of which I remember nothing due to the excellent sedation, I was offered tea, sandwiches and biscuits before getting dressed. When I felt ready to leave I was ushered into a comfortable patients sitting room along with my friend who was giving me a lift. The results of the procedure were explained to me in an un rushed way allowing time for me to ask questions. I was then given advice on what I should not do over next 24 hours due to sedation. My friend was also amazed at the endoscopy unit having had a similar procedure recently in a different local hospital. Her experience was the complete opposite both with the environment and how she felt rushed afterwards not being given anything to eat nor given time to ask questions. Well done Royal Surrey Endoscopy Unit you would not get better care in a Private Hospital. I will certainly recommend any friend to opt for you if they are given the choice. My only small concern was patient confidentiality. There was a lady in the next bed to me with only a curtain drawn between us. I could quite clearly hear the admission interview between patient and nurse, name, address and why she was having procedure.
