I attended today for the above scan and have both positive and negative feedback. Positives first: 1. The nurse with me in my scan was so lovely/reassuring. 2. Thank you to the matron for helping me when I became unwell. Hugely supportive and helpful. 3. The husband and wife volunteers on the help desk who kept me company until my husband arrived. So friendly and appreciated. Negatives now: 1. Given the nature of the scan I should have been told a male doctor would be performing it. I did not feel comfortable at all. 2. The pre advice information does not really prepare a person for the scan. It doesn't explain that a balloon is going to be inserted and inflated causing a fairly intense pain. It doesn't say that the contrast dye can, as it did in my case, make a person feel very unwell and unable to drive home. Due to this I had to get rescued by my family - 2 members so that my car could be collected from the car park and I had to take last minute time off work today. I still, 8 hours later, feel ill. In summary, great staff but poor pre-scan advice. I visited the women's unit which isn't an option below.
