At 2am, a very elderly patient cut her head (which did not penetrate the skull) and went off to the Dorset County Hospital to be patched up. There were lots of delays, including a life-threateningly ill patient, who had to be dealt with first. The patient was therefore kept waiting, as she was considered to be in no danger. Altogether the patient was kept awake, despite her great age, for at least 24 hours! Additionally she was deprived of her most important ongoing medication and the necessary care that went with it. Accordingly, despite reassurances from the consultant of her welcome progress, she fails to make it just 6 hours later.
