I took my 10 year old son to Ward F4 this morning for a day surgical procedure. Immediately on arrival to the ward we were welcomed and shown to his bed. Within a couple of minutes we were introduced to Play therapist, who couldn't do enough to put my son at ease (given Xbox to play with and videos) The nursing staff were welcoming and helpful - ensuring that my son's visit was handled professionally and with compassion. When it was time to go to theatre we were accompanied by the Play Therapist, who was wonderful at distracting my son whilst the needle was put in his hand. The theatre staff and anaesthetist couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. After his surgery we were supported by the ward staff and did not feel 'rushed' to free up the bed in the way I have experienced in other hospitals. Prior to his discharge the nurses spent time with us to ensure we fully understood the follow up required. I would not hesitate to recommend Whiston Hospital to my friends, family and anyone else who needs hospital care.
