"Maternity Ward"

About: Stafford Hospital

The delivery ward staff were lovely although I did find there was a lack of communication between the doctors and myself and husband. They had to take a blood sample from my unborn daughter whilst I was in labour. The deluveey room filled with doctors and instruments for the procduee and nothing was explained to me until I was crying and in such a state they realised that maybe it would be a good idea to keep me informed. I found the ward very unorganised and under staffed. I was placed in a room with my new baby with a lady awaiting a csection and another in labour which I found very poor planning. The staff took a long time to come when you buzzed, everything seemed like too much of an effort for them and doses of antibiotics were missedfor me. I only encountered one midwife on the ward tgat was actually helpful on a two night stay. I wasleft of the ward feeling like a prisoner. I have been left with very bad memories of having my daughter and feeling physically scared of stepping foot in the hospital again.

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter. I am so sorry to hear that your experience of our maternity ward was so poor. I have shared your posting with the Head of Maternity Services who would welcome the opportunity to discuss this in more detail. Would you please contact Anne Mellor on 01785 257731 extension 4823 to enable this at your convenience.

Kind Regards

Angela Grocott

Head of Patient Experience
