Northampton General Hospital has a new Department called Ambulatory Care. I was recently referred to them suffering from Cellulitus. It is no exageration to say that I received the most excellent service from them. From start to finish of a five-week course of treatment I have been treated with respect, kindness and sympathy. Receptionists made me feel welcome. HCAs and Nurses made me feel as though I really mattered. I was told why things were being done and, if there was likely to be some waiting involved, why this was happening and what would be the eventual result. Family members were welcomed and kept involved. Doctors always introduced themselves and were friendly and informative. When there was a protracted wait for test results for instance, I was not left to sit and wait it out in isolation. Everybody acknowledged that I was still there. If they had time they would have a quick chat and maybe even give me coffee. The Staff were obviously busy but always managed to treat me, and other patients, like real people. I wish that every Department in every Hospital was the same. Anne Adams
