I was recently rushed by ambulance into Granthams ED. I had a couple of Grand Mal seizures and a servilely dislocated shoulder. Wen I got into ED.they did the "primary admission checks"(Blood pressure,HR etc) then left on my own.Despite the fact I had suffered several seizures and shouldn't be left encase of another seizure.because of the server dislocation i was in a hell of a lot of pain.In the ambulance I was given IV morphine and entonox gas.combined was managing to keep the pain slightly under control. ED left me without any form of painkillers. I kept hassling who ever would listen in order to get the entonox gas back. After the X-rays where taken,it was officially decided that I had servely dislocated my shoulder and had a possible scapular fracture. Dr decided that I had to go to theatre to have an emergency shoulder reduction. He wanted this to be done ASAP because I had lost the feeling in my arm.he feared nerve damage, didn't want to risk permanat nerve damage to my arm. After 61/2hrs in ED I was taken down to the operating theatre.by this time it was the nightshift which meant that the ppl involved had to be called in from home. By the time everyone was there I had been waiting outside the anaesthetic room for 45min without any form of pain relief.the porter refused to let me take the entonox because he would have to take it back down to the ED department. Wen I finally got into the room they decided to change how they where going to do my op. wen I was brought round from the General I had several seizures.they decided to send me to Critical Care for the night. All went well and I was discharged the evening of the nxt day. When I saw the surgeon on the morning ward round in CCU he had said I was not to be discharged without having a clinic appointment for the next week. low and behold when it came to discharge I hadn't been given a fracture clinic appointment. My dad asked the nurse about this.she said that they hadn't arranged a follow up appointment and she would do it and ring me the next day to tell me when it was. The next day I didn't get a phone call. I left it a few days and I rang the hospital to find out for myself. I spoke to fracture clinic to find out. I was given a date and a time for my follow.ive received a letter today in regards to another apt I have at Grantham and it's on the same day and time as my fracture clinic one. I rang up today to see if I could rearrange my FC apt.after being passed around several different people and departments I was told that they didn't no anything about me needing an outpatients appointment so there wasn't one booked. This NHS working as per normal.I'm so mad.
"disappointed with standard of emergency and follow..."
