"Breakdown in communication"

About: Wrightington Hospital

It's all said and done sitting exams after years of studying but in my personal opinion if you haven't got the communication skills or the interaction with your patient it all seems pointless. After my first visit to see the consultant I was left feeling extremely upset and embarrassed. I found him very condescending, patronising, and belittling and the final straw was when he made a comment about larger ladies will inevitably have trouble with their hips- I felt whether intentionally or unintentionally that this was directed at me and I am neither obese or underweight! He laughed at my answers and every question he asked he interrupted me with another, he was very bad mannered. Otherwise the hospital was impressive and all the other staff were amazing and helpful but I've seen my GP asking not to return to Wrightington.

We are extremely sorry for your poor experience at our Hospital, the communication skills of the consultant or clinician concerned were not of the standard we would expect. As a Trust we have a commitment to continuously improve everything that we do and would like to thank you for telling us of your experience. We would like to assure you that we are committed to developing our staff and their skills.

If you would like to contact the Patient Relations Department with your details we would certainly be happy to look into this further and discuss with the particular consultant she saw on this day.
