Staff were wonderful when my brother was brought in by ambulance direct from his GP surgery at 10.30 in morning to AE department. We did have a long wait in department but this was due to high number of patients needing to be seen. Staff did a wonderful job in very difficult circumstances. They also advised us that my brother.'s condition was serious a nd prognosis was very bad. Eventually got transferred to ward 8 at 6.45 pm. Again staff were absolutely wonderful. The problem for us was that. my brother is on a feeding peg to stomach and needs liquid nutrition and medicines. Unfortunately neither were available because the pharmacy was closed! Surely there should me some.. sort of out of hours system to cover this eventuality? In the end, after a very long and difficult day, having already done a round trip of over 40 miles I drove to his home to pick up necessary medications. The ward could not even get hold of liquid antibiotics and ended up borrowing some from children's department. The other problem was waiting on the ward for medications on discharge, again had to wait over 5 hours, and these were only delivered after complaining profusely. Something needs to be done to rectify this situation with the pharmacy !
"Staff great -unlike systems"
