I have been having treatment at Medway for the past four years and every time I have visited the treatment has been brilliant. The nurses are very caring and are always reassuring making me feel at ease every time. I am so grateful for the care and treatment I have had over the years. I do however have one negative comment about my last visit. The staff are so busy and bed spaces are obviously at a premium. I came round in recovery after a very minor operation, one of which I have had several times so am aware of the procedure. I stayed there taking up valuable space for what seemed a very long time. The nurse confirmed that there was no space available on pre op where I had come from but that there was a new unit called ADL? I was told that I needed to eat and was offered a yoghurt or banana. To be honest that setting was not somewhere that I felt like eating. I was conscious that I was taking up a space that could have been used for someone else so agreed to move there while waiting for my husband to come and get me. It probably seems very minor but I felt really self conscious being wheel chaired across the hospital by a really lovely nurse with my file on my lap and hanging on to my dignity! My point is could there be somewhere closer to the theatres for people in my position to wait before discharge. Having said that I did leave without the usual discharge papers I am given. Having had the procedure before I am aware of what to expect after an anaesthetic but there are some for whom it will be a first time and will need an explanation. I still say that I am so grateful for all that has been done for me the nursing staff, especially in Sunderland ward are amazing and I would like my thanks passed on to them.
