"maternity after care"

About: Wansbeck Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I was induced at Wansbeck hospital in February 2014 and gave birth to my daughter two days later naturally but I needed stitches. After having a lot of discomfort from my stitches I spoke to my midwife who then told me to see my doctor immediately. My doctor then referred me back to ward 11 at Wansbeck. The doctor saw me and told me I was fine and to keep myself clean and dry.

A month later I was still sore so I went back to my GP who referred me to a Gynaecologist. I waited 3 weeks to see the Gynaecologist who then told me my labia has either been stitched together or fused together on its own.

I understand things are never perfect but I am in a considerable amount of pain. It hurts to walk and I can only sit in certain positions. My partner works away so I am alone looking after my daughter which is hard when I'm under this strain.

My date for surgery is June, which means I will have had this problem for four months which is obscene.

Can anything that can be done about this? I am in pain and the thought of waiting another month before I can be seen to is terrible.

Dear Madam,

I am so sorry that you are experiencing pain and discomfort following the birth of your daughter in February.

I imagine this must be difficult particularly with your partner being away at the moment.

We would always want to do all we can to ensure our patients are seen as quickly as possible.

I don't have any of your details but would like to try and help if I can. I would be very grateful if you could contact me at Annie.laverty@northumbria-healthcare.nhs.uk

Best Wishes

Annie
