One week ago I was discharged from KGH after a 3 day stay on Ashton Ward having had a full shoulder replacement . In the last 7 years this was the 7th operation I had undergone between both the treatment centre and the main hospital and this time , by far ,I received the greatest care ever . From the moment I arrived on the ward to the time I was discharged , the attention to detail , constant monitoring, and consistency of care was first class . There was a methodical handover and update everyday between day and night shift for every single patient on my bay . The food was good and the ward and toilets always clean. The staff right down from the ward sister to carer to cleaning lady were happy and cheerful and nothing was too much trouble for them. I would hope that they are regularly shown this feedback as too often people are too quick to complain yet slow to show gratitude. It goes without saying that as always my consultant showed care and compassion and spoke to me as a human being both before the operation and afterwards , as he visited me both in recovery and on the ward. This I found very reassuring and would mention him personally if I didn't think that it is probably unprofessional to do so. I would also like to mention my anesthetiser , his manor was both refreshing and calming . For the first time I felt relaxed after fully understanding his role in the procedure after visiting me on the ward pre-op , discussing in detail and offering a further pain relief procedure. Having had this particular operation 5 years previous I was well aware of the pain and discomfort I had yet to come so fully appreciated his offer . Overall I would just like to say thank you very much to all involved and also how very grateful I feel to have access to a system such as the NHS ! I am only 42 and well aware at a relatively young age, as far as orthopaedic complaints are concerned ,that my mobility and quality of life has been greatly improved as a result .
"Nothing but praise for all staff concerned."
