In 2012 my mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer, after visits to the consultant, ct scan and endoscopy, then eua by consultant. Within 3 weeks mum started chemotherapy and radiotherapy at Christies which finished end of November that year. March 2013 she had a major operation of a colostomy and some surrounding internal areas removed. A massive operation for a lady of 82 yrs! As a family we are eternally grateful to the team who performed the operation, to ward B6 who although were frantically busy were marvellous with mum. I asked if myself and my sisters could call in and help mum with her personal hygiene each day and the staff were very accommodating. When asking about mums progress were given any information requested. The support by the Stoma nurses given post surgery has also been outstanding. Mum is due for a check up with the consultant tomorrow one year on and is back to how she was prior to surgery plus her Stoma which she is coping quite well with. A number of my family have also had wonderful treatment at s.h.h in different depts and we have always been treated with great dignity and respect. Top marks for a top hospital who do their best at all times.
