On behalf of the whole family, I am pleased to have the opportunity to formally record our gratitude for the kindness and care that our 92 year old mother received during her recent stay of almost two months in Barnstaple Hospital following a deep and severe stroke. This was rapidly diagnosed with its full extent being determined. After time spent being stabilised and evaluated in Glossop Ward she was eventually transferred to the Acute Stroke Unit. Being able to sit with her there at any time was much appreciated whilst members of the team, at every level within the hierarchy, always endeavoured to keep us informed as to what was going on, both when on the ward in person or when ringing in. With our late father having recently had similar experiences i.e. a stroke followed by the requirement for a PEG operation, we were amazed at the difference in overall treatment Mum received as compared to the very hit and miss, almost slap-dash attitude encountered in a certain South London hospital. And to extract any information at all required many hours of frustrating endeavour. Now that Mum has returned to her nursing home, we are uncertain what the future will hold but, we do know that without your assiduousness it is doubtful if she would have survived at all. Thank you.
