I am 39 weeks pregnant high risk with my first baby who is breeched unable to move. I was booked in for a C-section on the 10/1/2014 so not to risk me going into labour and baby becoming distressed. Today my appointment was cancelled due to a "problem", so now I have to wait until the 15th for my surgery. When I queried the reason it turns out that due to a complication one woman was cancelled today and given my appointment but I cant have mine any sooner as QA don't do planned C-sections at weekends or on Tuesdays! But you can do emergency ones 24/7. All because the Consultants etc wanted to finish at 5pm instead of staying on to finish the list for the day. I am fully aware that the out of hours team get paid at least double to come in to do an emergency. I think this is disgusting and unprofessional. I can see why a lot of departments are being taken over by private firms to run an NHS contract as they will finish the list for the day and even put on extra clinics to make sure the service is provided. Maybe you should consider higher management should take a pay cut so the money can be put to better use in clinical areas. I cannot tell you the emotional and mental preparation I have gone through to prepare myself for this surgery to be cancelled! Sorry does nothing to the plans and preparations that has been put in place by my family and friends to support me.
