"Something needs to change!"

I have been reading the reviews and can say i agree with most of them. Some of the reviews have had replies saying that their are changes made this was in 2007 and i was there in 2013 and still agreed that these were issues. Not all staff but most of the staff do not work to a standard im sure their meant to. The staff only engages with other staff members and when they do engage with patients they speak rudely and in a very un professional manner. The doctors are very rarely there i was not put on any medication whilst i was there but when becoming upset would not be offered support but offered a tablet to "calm me down " The doctor had even put me under a section and the next day took it off clearly because she realised there was no need for it , but not the doctor or any other member of staff mentioned that i had been taken off which resulted in me being there a lot longer this is disgraceful no one wants to be in there longer than necessary. This also meant that i was entitled to have time away from the hospital with families and friends which i didn’t receive. With a complaint about the roof terrace saying that people can ask if they want to go up there this is untrue! There is a set time every 2 hours from 8 till 8 and even the staff would moan and hesitate when we would line up when its time. The fifteen minutes does not happen either you would be lucky to get 5 minutes. i came here on my own accord because it was recommended that i would find this very helpful because off the services that would be offered such as therapy where i would get the chance to talk to someone and also activities to make the time i do spend in there easier i didn’t see so much as a pen and paper never mind art classes. Their was no gym and patients with no families and that are not allowed out would ask for stuff they need and 3 days later still be asking. I feel that as a patient the main priority would be the duty of care. This could not be any further from the case. The Gordon was meant to help me i was a 21 year old girl and this was my first time in hospital i was never supported by the staff and found this place to make me feel even worse because i would not receive any support even though i was scared and upset. I think the Gordon feels that they don’t have to help us in the way their jobs say they should because it is our words against there’s. I was lucky i had family coming up daily one including my aunt who herself works for the NHS; they were horrified to see the way people are treated. A lot of the patients i met in there had been admitted on more than one occasion and they have no trust that the NHS will help. These people are vulnerable people that asked for help just like i did, help that they rightly deserve and urgently need but sadly this doesn’t happen. People with Mental health are not going to get better without the support they need.
