My daughter was referred by our GP to Staffs Hospital on a Friday evening with acute abdominal pain. I have to say the A&E receptionist was not overly pleasant but that is where any negativity ends.
The wait in A&E was about 45 mins which wasn't too bad - then once into a cubicle my daughter's treatment was fantastic. The cubicle was absolutely spotless. We had the pleasure of meeting the fabulous Dr George who took full details, then explained exactly what he was going to do and why he was doing it. He then explained to the nurse what he'd written up.
My daughter was then admitted to the children's ward where our nurse came and introduced herself, took obs etc. Not long after the consultant and his team came and introduced themselves and examined my daughter. They explained exactly what they were doing and why they were doing it (you can't overestimate how important this is - it reassures you).
We witnessed staff washing their hands all the time. The cleaners were regularly seen cleaning everywhere, pulling out the beds and thoroughly cleaning... the ward was spotless.
The theatre staff were wonderful, the cleaning staff were wonderful, the nurses were wonderful, the doctors were wonderful... it was one of the best experiences we've had in Stafford Hospital.
This was an extremely distressing time for us and the support and courtesy we were shown by all staff was exceptional and helped us greatly.
