"Care on children's ward"

About: Dr Gray's Hospital / Emergency Medicine Dr Gray's Hospital / Paediatric Unit

(as a service user),

I took my 2 year old to A&E at DGH in Elgin today after he was burned with boiling water. I really appreciated being quickly seen (within 5 minutes of checking in at A&E) and being taken straight through to the paediatric ward. The staff there were fantastic, particularly Jamie the play leader, the doctor who assessed us and the nurses who put a dressing on my childs injury. Everything in the service was child friendly such as taking vitals in a fun way, the way the staff interacted and engaged, the design of the space and the toys provided. I really appreciated the way Jamie entertained and distracted my child during the dressing, which enabled the nurses to do a fantastic job with no upset or tears from my child whatsoever. It was lovely to see my child smile for the first time after a cold shower on his injuries (the only cause of tears during his visit!) when Jamie brought him a farm toy and this kept him really happy while we waited for assessment. Thank you so much to the team for making our visit to the hospital so positive under difficult and stressful circumstances! We felt looked after and supported and communication about next steps was clear and helpful.

Dear taurustp48,

Thank you for taking the time to share this great feedback on your recent experience of our ED and paediatric ward. A burn with boiling water must have been quite distressing so I'm pleased to hear that your son was so well looked after and that the whole team made your attendance a positive experience, despite the difficult circumstances.

I'll be sure to share this with the doctors, nurses and, in particular, with Jamie.

I hope your son is recovering well.

Best regards,

Louise
