I recently had surgery, but as it had not been possible to remove aa the stones I was told I would have follow up surgery in 4-6 weeks and that an ureteral stent would be left in place until then.
The stent pokes the bladder and kidneys when moving and places pressure on the bladder when standing so I have been in permanent discomfort since. I have been unable to walk or stand for more than a few minutes and coupled with the need to urinate frequently and urgently have struggled to work and to leave the house for appointments and food shopping.
Having after 6 weeks heard nothing about a further surgery date I chased up urology and a message was left saying a date was being sought. Having heard nothing more I asked PALS if they could find out the reason for the delay. The reason was that Urology were still awaiting new theatre lists. Because of cancellation of capacity there was no current availability .
I was shortly after given a date, with a wait of 12 weeks, though as a result of a cancellation surgery, I am please to advise surgery will take place in May
Because of the stent the length of wait has had a large impact on my quality of life and wellbeing and I would have benefited greatly from an earlier operation. I would also have appreciated more communication to enable me to understand the reasons for delay
