"Loss of my mother's 3 diamond rings"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France

(as a relative),

In April 2023 my mother became severely unwell. Her calcium levels were out of control and she was on calcium supplements from her GP.

It took 5 weeks at RIE to get this discovered, treated and stabilised. That part of the experience was fantastic and I am very grateful.

However during her stay her engagement ring (1965), my grandmothers engagement ring (1933) and a solitaire gifted by a friend who died of cancer disappeared from her wedding finger.

All the wards were contacted - she was in 3, the cashiers office, the A&E department, the radiographers - but nothing found. I have gone through the channels of complaint where they confirmed they couldn't locate.

I am heartbroken as my Father died during covid locked in a nursing home. I want a discussion with someone in authority about the jewellery.

I myself am disabled and live in London. I am partially sighted and therefore email ping pong is not good. My last contact was to the litigation team - probably in the autumn of 2023, but I have not heard from them since.

Dear Disappointed and Sad,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story on Care Opinion. I am pleased to hear about the treatment your mother received last year whilst at the RIE, although saddened to hear about the loss of these valuable rings. I can understand how you and your mother feel heartbroken about the loss of such meaningful pieces of jewellery.

As Care Opinion is an anonymous platform it can be difficult to advise what the best next steps are without knowing greater detail. Can I recommend you could contact the Patient Experience Team directly on 0131 536 3370 (Mon- Fri, 9am-2pm) or email on LOTH.feedback@nhs.scot so we can support you on the best course of action.

Kind regards,

Mariska
