"Dedicated staff have given me a second chance"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Cardiac Day Unit Crosshouse Hospital / Cardiology General practices in Ayrshire & Arran Golden Jubilee National Hospital / Interventional Cardiology

(as the patient),

Last November, I made an appointment with my doctor, as I thought that I had a chest infection. I was seen by the nurse practitioner, who examined me, and said I hadn't got a chest infection.

At that point, she took out a small cardiograph, and took some readings. She then did it again, and went to see the doctor. After a few minutes she returned, with an envelope for me and asked if I could get to Crosshouse Hospital myself, or should they call an ambulance. My wife came to the surgery, and ran me to the hospital, where I was examined in A & E, then admitted to the acute cardiac ward, to await a bed becoming available at the Jubilee Hospital, where I would be treated.

I had to wait for several days in Crosshouse, before I was transferred to the Jubilee. After I arrived at the Jubilee, I was examined, and I had to wait several days for my first visit to the "Lab" where I received 3 stents. 2 days later, I had my second round of treatment, and received a further 2 stents, and I was discharged the following day.

I was then enrolled in the post op care, and saw the pharmacist and the physiotherapist, who introduced me to my medication, and exercises to bring me up to my usual level of fitness. They all tell me that I have made a good recovery, and I feel much better, and am able to live the same way as I did before the the heart attack.

I wish to say that throughout the entire experience, the staff I was treated by were wonderful, dedicated, highly professional and impressively competent people. I cannot thank them enough for the second chance they have given me.
