"Lovely and accommodating staff"

About: Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Crichton Ward Royal Hospital for Children and Young People (Edinburgh) / Play Services

(as a parent/guardian),

My son recently had a surgery at the Crichton ward. All staff, especially the play workers, were incredibly kind and absolutely lovely with him.

My son has Tourette's and ASD and was very anxious about the surgery. We were able to arrange a play visit for a couple of days before the surgery where he was talked through everything and shown around. This was very helpful for him!

On the day he was able to stay in a private room the whole time and use his gaming equipment from home. This all helped him to stay calm and comfortable.

He was involved in every step and all staff members explained everything to him beforehand, so he felt well informed and as prepared as he could be. Many thanks to everyone!

Dear Golwen,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your story and for the lovely comments about the ward staff. The ward staff have been made aware of your comments and also appreciate you taking the time to do this.

I am glad that you and your son found the visit prior to his surgery helpful and that having his own room helped him to stay calm and comfortable.

I believe you have my direct telephone number but if not, I can be contacted on 0131 312 0364. Please do not hesitate to contact me if he is due to come for any further procedures so that we can put a plan in place to try to emulate the experience above.

Hi, My name is Iona and I am a staff nurse on the Crichton unit.

I would like to thank you for providing such positive feedback about our unit and for taking time out of your day to provide us with this feedback.

I am glad to hear yourself and your Son had such a positive experience and have passed this onto the rest of the team on Crichton. We strive to ensure each family have a good experience throughout their time on Crichton as it can be a long day. Glad to hear he made good use of the games on the ward.

Thank you again!

Iona
