"Just not a nice experience"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as the patient),

Took unwell at work. Ambulance was called. They were amazing but worried about my heart, my heart rate and blood pressure. I was being sick, dizzy and blurred vision.

Got me to A&E and got a bed straight away. A nurse took some details another took blood. I was sent for chest x-ray. All very quickly which was great.

Then I saw a nurse practitioner. They had asked a few questions came back and said all tests came back OK (great) and I can go. They took the canula out, walked out leaving the curtain open. I tried to get off the bed but struggled as my head was still spinning and my vision was still blurry.

By chance a nice HCSW was passing and asked if I was ok. I told them I was to go but still had the monitor wires on my back, monitor on my finger and blood pressure cuff on. They helped with this and closed the curtain so that I could get dressed in private. I asked if they could show me how to get out and they said a nurse would need to speak to me.

I got dressed and was so dizzy I had to lie on the bed again. The HCSW came back after about 20mins and asked if anyone had been to see me and I said no. They went away, came back, and said you have just to go, showed me the direction of the exit.

I walked down the corridor to the exit very unsteady on my feet and staggering, vision still blurry. A person at the door opened it for me and asked if I was ok. I had no reception on my phone inside so had to wait until I was outside to call my husband to collect me.

I managed to find a bench and wait 30 mins for him to arrive while feeling sick, dizzy with blurred vision. I was sick the whole way home and staggered out of the car to the house. I was the same the whole next day, and still don't feel OK today.

My complaint is that the nurse practitioner asked how I felt and I said I was still dizzy and my vision was still not good, but they just said your white blood cell count is up a bit you may have an infection somewhere but you can go. I would have at least took off all of the equipment, asked if I needed to call anyone to collect me, and closed the curtain for privacy for getting dressed.

I feel that they were very uncaring and spoilt the reputation of the whole department. They also asked the nurse that was putting the canula in if they were signed off and did they need to be watched, which I thought was unprofessional in front of a patient.

Also when they took the canula out it was bleeding and the blood was all down my arm by time I got home. Just not a nice experience and I hope I never have to attend that department anytime soon.
