I was admitted to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow after suffering a miscarriage. I had been diagnosed with a delayed miscarriage at my 12-week scan the week before and was due to come in for an MVA. However I began naturally miscarrying and had severe pain and bleeding.
I was triaged and admitted very quickly and all the staff I dealt with were very professional. As can be imagined it was an extremely traumatic experience for both myself and my partner, but the exceptional care provided by the team in A&E made a huge difference.
I would like to extend particular thanks to nurses named Olivia and Nicola as well as a doctor named Charlotte and Dr Bhat who came to A&E to see me from Gynecology. Their kindness, empathy and understanding got me through the day and made me feel seen in my experience.
I would also like to thank a doctor whose name I sadly can't remember. She was the anaesthetist who I saw while in Resuscitation. She met me at my level and shared her experience with me and it made me feel so cared for, I appreciate her and all the staff I saw so much.
I also loved that the surgical team who performed my surgical evacuation of the uterus was entirely female as not only did it make my experience as a woman in this horrible situation slightly easier, it also warmed my feminist heart.
Every person I interacted with provided excellent care and support but I felt the women I have mentioned deserved my special thanks and note as, if a miscarriage can be made easier and even some aspects made positive, they are the ones who made it so.
I have so much respect and appreciation for them all as medical professionals but primarily as extremely kind, empathetic women who I now have a lot of love and gratitude for. I can only hope that others in my position are as lucky in their care as I was. Thank you for reading.
