"Check-up delays"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Ophthalmology (Eye Problems)

(as the patient),

I am a patient that should have had a yearly check-up at the ophthalmology clinic in April this year. However, when my letter hasn’t arrived I phoned to enquire about it and was told that they are running approximately 9 months behind with their appointments. I tried to explain that my consultant normally insists on no delays as I have had bilateral retinal detachments, but no luck.

I then thought maybe I should go to opticians - better some check-up then none and it was found that I had a retinal detachment at which point they consulted with ARI and I was sent there for further examination and then laser treatment.

The care I have received was okay, but I was somewhat surprised that I was only seen by ST1 who after treatment said I’ll have check-up in 6 weeks. However I believe it is normally 2 weeks post treatment. Overall I am bit worried that the standard of care is slipping and problems are being missed.
