I recently attended the plaster room at Forth Valley Royal Hospital. Two weeks earlier I had flat foot reconstruction, tendon in my foot replaced and spring ligament reconstruction.
The nurses in this department were to remove the staples (50 in total!) from the 2 wounds on either side on my foot. I was very nervous about getting this done but the nurses were very reassuring and kind. I had two student nurses - Shannon and Sophie and a more senior nurse - Nicole. They worked great as a team....Nicole and Sophie gently removing the staples and Shannon doing a great job right by my side talking to me and keeping my mind off what was happening.
I returned to the same department, as I had been feeling anxious about my wounds and just wanted to make sure all was ok. I saw Shannon again - it was so nice to see her friendly face again! Again I was treated with such kindness and Shannon was reassuring that was all ok and this was backed up by more senior nurse Julie. I felt so relieved. They told me that if I was unsure about anything or had any questions I was just to phone them. I did end up phoning the department with a question and they give me plenty of advice and were happy to help.
Thank you to these nurses for all their help.
