"The best care"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Medical HDU (Ward 52)

(as a relative),

My mum recently spent a few weeks in the surgical high dependency unit in Glasgow Royal Infirmary following an esophagectomy as part of her cancer treatment. From her first evening on the ward to her last before being transferred to a general ward her care and treatment was second to none. The team of doctors, nurses and other disciplines who were involved in her  treatment provided a high standard of care and expertise throughout her admission.

I would like to especially mention the nursing staff, each and every one of them carried out their role with kindness and compassion at every opportunity. When we visited mum someone always came in to introduce themselves, explain how she had been or if they had a minute a general chit chat. Despite being extremely busy everyone was approachable and whether we had a question or request nothing was a problem for them.

The level of care they provided to my mum was beyond any of our expectations.

Their professionalism, clinical knowledge, skills and expertise within the field of surgery and high dependency was excellent and demonstrated throughout her stay. When we first went to visit post op, the nurse explained what had happened in surgery, how she was and the purpose of the various drips and drains, or medication she was on and was very reassuring about her presentation.

During her stay in HDU she developed a complication, again the nurses were on the ball in making her comfortable, investigating what happened and reassuring us relatives with explanations of her condition and treatment.

In summary this nursing team are a credit to their profession.

Also, a shout out to Adam the house keeper who was always very pleasant, professional and kind, nothing was a problem for him.
