"Bed space"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as a relative),

My dad was in for a hip op in Wishaw Hospital, was in ward 14 but was transferred to ward 15. He also has cancer. He was put in an extra bed with no buzzer, no chair, no light, no plugs. Bed was against the wall so god forbid they would have had to do CPR!

The aerial for the TV was hanging down the wall. He couldn’t see the TV as he was side on to it. Surely this isn’t suitable for someone recovering for a hip up where even sitting on a chair for a few hours might have made a difference with stiffness etc. Not much room for visitors either.

I understand the hospital is busy but surely this isn’t suitable for patient welfare and safety. Staff could not have done more and deserve a medal for what they do.

Dear sheldon8232,

Thank you for sharing your dad's experience of University Hospital Wishaw, Trauma and Orthopaedics.

I am so sorry to hear that your father was put in a room with no chair, buzzer, light or plugs and was against the wall meaning CPR would have been challenging if it had been required. In order for us to gain further details around this, please could you contact our Patient Affairs Wishaw, I have included their details below, who will be able to investigate and provide you with a personal response.

PatientAffairs.Wishaw@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk

Tel no 01698 366 558

I am pleased to hear your positive feedback about the staff doing everything they could for your dad and will ensure this is shared with the team.

I hope your dad is recovering well.

Kind Regards,

Jenni
