"Urology Outpatient appointment"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Urology

(as a service user),

I had a recent outpatient appointment with a urology consultant, chaperoned by a lovely Health Care Assistant.

The consultant appeared disinterested throughout as I had felt during previous consultations. On being brought into the room, they were slumped in their chair, scrolling on the screen, and glancing frequently at a mobile phone on their desk.

They did not appear to know my history, giving simplistic advice not relevant to me. I asked a question, and they just shrugged their shoulders and commented that it should be fine.

They maintained minimal eye contact, appeared belligerent and the consultation lasted approximately 3 minutes. It was almost farcical, and an example of a poor consultation.

In light of this, and a recent hospital admission, if I require further intervention from urology, I will request I receive care in Exeter.

I feel a couple of urology consultants need training on communication and compassion.

Dear cruxtb69,

I am sorry to hear about your recent visit to the Urology Department and would like to apologise for your negative experience. I would like the opportunity to hear more about your appointment and personally apologise as I would expect a higher quality of care.

I will share your feedback with the team however I would like to speak to the clinician directly, if you feel able to share further details then please contact our Patient Experience Team on rduh.patientexperience@nhs.net or 01271 314090.

You have also mentioned any ongoing care you would like transferred to Exeter, this can be arranged should you wish to do so.

Kind Regards

Keeley
