I had been struggling with my mental health for a long period of time and had been through all of the primary services within the trust. I had to wait a long long time to receive treatment (14 months) with the CBT services with waiting list times being so lengthy. I'm not going to lie and say that this time wasn't difficult and there wasn't frustration. It was very challenging. Have hope and reach out to whoever you can, as you're never ever alone. We hear 'trust me' so often, but please hang in there.
However, after finally receiving my first appointment, I could see that CBT would be helpful. Although I had learned several other approaches during my journey, the exercises and personal touch of Katie started to help to put things into place. These concrete techniques that I could use were and will hopefully continue to provide objective application to worry and stress. Having struggled with procrastination, I have learned that they are there to be used, and that I must push myself to do so as they are in the benefit of my life and what I want to do. It's definitely not a cure-all and compassionate self-responsibility does come into play. I found that moving towards a fulfilling meaning in life outside of therapy also helped too, so don't be afraid to do what you think you want to do in life.
Overall, CBT provided the helping hand that was needed to illuminate my negative thoughts processes and give me all the hope that was needed to overcome the darkness and move into the light. Hang in there and reach out for help. You may have to wait, but in my experience it is definitely worth it. Massive thanks to Katie and the whole team behind the service. It is truly an amazing thing to help those in need. Thank you!
