"My energy and mobility have improved greatly"

About: Community Therapy Services / Totton and Waterside

(as the patient),

I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1998 but was only told I had the Primary Progressive type about 8 years ago.

I was referred to the Community Therapy Team (Physiotherapy Department) by the MS Nurse at my last six monthly review as I have been experiencing increasing spasms in my legs, hands and arms, despite taking Pregabalin on a long term basis. Additionally, I was also experiencing occasional falls due to balance problems.

Following this referral, I subsequently received a phone call from Natalie, the Physiotherapist from the Totton and Waterside Community Therapy team. From the outset, she was extremely friendly and approachable, at the same time, able to discuss the details of my problems and concerns prior to then organising to visit me at home soon after.

On the first visit, we discussed a plan of action which included exercises, additional home aids (which Hampshire Equipment Services very quickly delivered) and an aid to help me with my foot drop. Additionally, Natalie also arranged for the MS nurse to phone me at home in order to discuss the possibility of increasing the dosage of Pregabalin.

Since then, I have had regular home visits from Natalie (and another Physiotherapist Torin, on some of them) which have been invaluable. On her last visit, we practised indoor walking, using my recently delivered Foot Brace and it is planned to do some outdoor walking next time.

I can honestly say that having been referred to your services and particularly, Natalie, my Physiotherapist, my energy and mobility have improved greatly. Additionally, having someone like Natalie, who is so friendly and approachable, has made the experience so much more positive, even on my ‘Off’ days. It has also enabled me to have the drive to carry on with the exercises on a daily basis, which, previously, I struggled with as I live on my own.

So, in conclusion, I would say that my mobility and mood have improved which in turn has given me a much more positive outlook for the future.

A big Thank You to Natalie and the Team!😁
