"Our son's experience of his ENT procedure."

About: Mid-Ulster Hospital / Paediatric Ambulatory Department

(as a parent/guardian),

Nursing staff met us in the morning at Pediatrics in Mid ulster hospital. The nursing staff (Rita and another female nurse) were very friendly and made our son feel at ease. Checks were completed promptly and following this the medical team then started their check process. Two anesthetist's (1male and 1 female) introduced themselves to us and again we felt very at ease. Following a theatre nurse (Nuala) and the surgeon (Dr.Barry)  stopped by to complete checks, answer questions and make us feel at ease.

The staff were very compassionate and allowed me to stay with our son while he went under. They provided with an approx length of time of the procedure and walked me to the waiting area. immediately following the procedure,  the nursing staff came to get me and showed nothing but compassion and kindness during the recovery process. The nursing staff in recovery acted quickly to ensure our son was pain free when he displayed pain and showed much awareness and close monitoring following the procedure. It was very helpful and sincere when both the surgeon and anesthetic made a personal appearance to provide feedback/Check on our sons recovery.

Back on the busy ward the staff nurses were amazing at how well they tended to all the children. It was clear to see from any observer how smooth and well managed the procedures were.

Dear Cheetah83,

I am the lead nurse with responsibility for the Mid Ulster Paediatric Ambulatory Department and am delighted to hear of the positive experience you and your son had throughout his admission. It is especially heartening to read of the professional and personal care delivered in each area which is what we constantly strive to deliver.

I will pass on your kind comments to the teams on the ward, in theatres and recovery as this really does make a difference to staff in their daily work.

thank you

Peter Johnston

Lead Nurse, Paediatrics
