"MRI on a Sunday"

About: Raigmore Hospital / Radiology

(as the patient),

I was delighted to get an MRI appointment as someone cancelled.

I was advised:

- to come early at BT area

- phone the mobile number provided

- takes 1 hr so need to empty bladder as no toilets in ambulatory services.

Called the team on the day at the site of Blood transfusion, who advised to empty bladder if needed. Whilst they will set up and call back.
As I work in the hospital, I knew the probable places I could access toilet but as it was a Sunday I couldn’t access them, finally went to A&E area.

The service was fantastic. The procedure was well explained.

I would advise:

When I got a mobile appointment on phone - it should also provide the mobile number which we need to call.

Remove any jewellery/ metallic stuff.

Also - tell the people to go to A&E for toilet if facilities unavailable.

Or

Simply put a mobile toilet- like for outdoor music festivals.

Dear Janfern,

Many thanks for taking the time to leave feedback on your recent visit to our Mobile MRI Van. I'm delighted you found the service fantastic, and much appreciate your suggestions.

I will discuss your ideas with our MRI Team Lead and see what we can add to the letter to better inform patients. Unfortunately it's not always possible to include a mobile number as the van is supplied by an external company and the staff rotate. I will look into this though.

I have reviewed the toilet situation myself before, it's a source of frustration for us. We tried to include a Portakabin, but unfortunately the only site where we can house the van on campus, does not have adequate external plumbing we can amend and also use.

Thanks again for your feedback and suggestions.

Kindest regards

Stephanie Adlinton
