I was admitted to the major trauma centre ward 8 RVH Belfast in March 2024 with multiple fractures following a horse riding accident.
I am so grateful for the support and kindness I received from every member of staff. In discussions and plans about all aspects of my care my experience and my opinion mattered and I felt heard. I saw the same staff during my stay and that made me feel more confident and reassured. Because they saw me every day they could see the progress I made, and celebrated the small goals with me.
Your world shrinks when you are a patient, little things become important, a calm peaceful atmosphere, friendly faces and gentleness. Little things like Emma washing my hair with a special magic shower cap cheered me up and made me laugh. When things were tough Colin listened and made me feel better.
I witnessed the very best of the NHS and every member of the major trauma team; doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, nursing assistants and ancillary staff played a part in my recovery.
Thank you for all your skill and care you put me back on my feet and I’m very grateful.
"Calm peaceful atmosphere, friendly faces and gentleness"
