"All the staff were brilliant"

About: Gynaecology / Hysteroscopy Services

(as the patient),

I needed a hysteroscopy after a scan revealed that I had uterine polyps.

I was referred by my GP after post menopausal bleeding occurred when I started HRT patches.

I initially went for a vaginal scan  which ended up with a biopsy being taken. This I found quite painful because I hadn't taken any painkillers prior to the procedure. So this  was in the back of my mind when I went for the hysteroscopy.

I was very anxious and nervous about it. I took painkillers about an hour before my appointment so they could get in to my system.

All the staff were brilliant. They explained the whole procedure very clearly and talked me through my pain relief options. I opted for a local anaesthetic injection into the neck of my womb and gas and air if needed.

To be honest, I worried about it for nothing. I didn't feel the injections and never felt any discomfort at all having the hysteroscopy and polyp removal. I didn't need the gas and air either.

All the staff who were with me were lovely, made me feel at ease and kept talking to me throughout the whole procedure and explained exactly what they were doing. The whole procedure lasted approx 20 mins and I was suprised when they did say it was all over and I could get up.

My only recommendation is that they need to invest in some sort of visual puzzle on the ceiling so that its something to concentrate on instead of the ceiling tiles.

Dear Yorkshire lass!

Thank you so much for the lovely feedback you have taken the time to post on care opinion. We strive to provide person centred care to ensure we take into consideration the needs of everyone who attends the unit. The feedback is useful re taking the analgesia prior to attending. This is one of the reasons we try to phone the day before your appointment to advise to do this an hour before coming in if at all possible. I will share with the whole team your positive feedback and the suggestion of a visual puzzle to look at instead of the tiles.

I would like to wish you all good wishes
