Hi there, I'd like to start this by saying I'm a huge supporter of the NHS and have huge sympathy for the pressure it is currently under. But My experience at Stoke Mandeville has left me distrusting and really questioning my belief in it.
I had an awful 10 hour experience in A&E, not because of the wait time but because of the lack of communication from staff and the unnecessary stress that they made me feel because of that.
I was then referred to eye casualty, who made me feel completely un listened to, I explained to the doctor of a genetic eye condition that runs in my family and she told me that it was impossible for my mum to have that condition, even though she is being actively treated for it at Moorfields, I think that is a horrendous thing for a doctor to say. I was booked in for a second appointment for a different test and when I arrived the test had not been booked in, I essentially had the same appointment again with a different doctor who was equally as dismissive and seemed like he had not bothered to read anything on my file and just made me feel awful to be honest. It felt like a complete lack of care and has caused me to lose all confidence in Stoke Mandeville. Again I fully appreciate the pressures that the service is under but already as a nervous, anxious person, this experience has really effected me and I wont be coming back to the hospital.
